- I am looking for galleries who would be interested in displaying my unique woodturned goods. No-one seems to be interested in wood art, more just paintings and similar. Have emailed many galleries but most of them do not even bother to reply.
Can anyone help please as I seem to be on a fruitless search at the moment!24 June '08 - 1.11pm
- You don't say where you live. Have you inquired if there is a Guild of artists and craft makers that you could join. They often will mount a series of exhibitons in the year. Galleries have different ways they like to be approached. You really need more of a personal touch than just an email. Try calling and explain what you do and ask if you can bring in some examples so they can see your workmanship. Bring some really good images of your work either in photos or better still on a disk.so you can leave it with them. They may not be able to use your work at that moment by may in the future. Also give them an idea of the price range of the pieces you make. Some galleries like to see images first and if they like what they see will invite you to bring in some pieces for a hands on inspection .Could you join a nationwide association which may have a newsletter with opportunities. We have a gallery up in Ambleside, whom you could contact. The Old Courthouse Gallery (www.ocg-arts.com). It would be a good idea to contact them first to talk about your work and establish whether they are taking in stock at the moment. Offer to send some images too if they sound interested and include a link to your website.
