UK Craft Guilds are part of Britain’s national heritage and continue to thrive into the 21st century. Some Craft Guilds have members who are based in a specific region, for example the Sussex Guild. Others relate to designer makers who work in a particular discipline or media, such as the Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers. Often a regional Guild will organise it’s own Craft Fairs and Exhibitions for members to promote their work and there may also be a Guild Gallery or Shop, which displays and sells members’ work. Craft Guilds are a great opportunity for craft makers (who often work in isolation) to meet, network, share experiences, pass on business tips and generally support each other in their creative working lives.
For people looking to buy or commission quality craftsmanship, members of a Craft Guild will have often been through a Guild selection process as a new member, which helps to ensure the highest standard of work.
