Hybrid Processes - Kilncasting and Pate de Verre with Marina Hanser

Event Type: Craft Course/Workshop
In this workshop we will explore the hybrid process of combining traditional high-temperature kiln casting with the low-temperature technique of pâte de verre to produce work which reveals the wide variety of different properties glass has to offer. DropOut Technique and Reactive Effects - Erna Piechna

Event Type: Craft Course/Workshop
In this class Erna Piechna presents the basics of the method with the creation of deep vessels, vases and goblets achieving results only normally achieved by glass blowing. The process encompasses the preparation of the blank, the controlled drop-out firing, the separation of the 'collar' (by hand) plus the grinding and polishing of the base and rim.The colour work focuses on the reactions. Tiny Vessels with Erna Piechna

Event Type: Craft Course/Workshop
We are talking small. The height of a tiny vessel is about 4 cm. It is worked in layers of glass, cold worked and polished with delicate patterns on the outside (sometimes the inside) and many more details. A lot of fine handwork goes into this little gem.

Sandblasting with Photosensitive Resist with Erna Piechna-Sowersby

On this discovery day, we will show you how it works, which type of equipment you need and how you can develop your own ideas. Photosensitive sandblast resist opens up numerous possibilities, as the technique can be applied to individual art work as well as to serial production. Realism to Abstraction: Breaking Down and Zooming In with Kari Minnick

Event Type: Craft Course/Workshop
This accessible art class for kiln workers will be of interest to artists such as printmakers and painters or anyone for whom visual expression in glass is desired. Starting with their own images, photos, clippings, etc., students will examine why certain imagery appeals to them, how to isolate the potency of the image, dissect, vary and ultimately move toward meaningful abstraction.
