Metal Clay Ten Week Course

The aim of the course is for students to discover the joy of learning new skills, stretching their own creative ideas in a relaxed environment and allowing the learner to try different techniques. The courses are limited to six students and are suitable for beginners and those already familiar with some jewellery making techniques. Individual tuition is given to every student.

An intensive and highly practical 12 week woodworking skills course incorporating furniture design and making, suitable for complete beginners. Students take a City & Guilds 6218 Level 1 Certificate in Basic Construction Skills and an optional level 3 qualification. In this 1 day class you will learn the technique of Or Nue', different coloured threads are couched over Japanese imitation gold thread to form a design. The shading is achieved by the spacing of the couching stitches and the colours used. Both the background of the design and the design itself are couched.
Make a small heart shaped trinket box for Valentine's Day gift. Using slabs of clay and cutters create a personal trinket/gift bow keep sake for a loved one. Using coloured slips and underglaze colours to decorate your trinket box with your own personal designs, they will then be fired and glazed to enhance the colours. Book by: 28 Jan '17

Learn how to design, cut and print your own, original block. You will have the opportunity to print on paper, cards, canvas bag and more. No experience necessary as you will be guided through the process at your own pace. We will be using easy to cut lino which is soft and versatile. This is a great starting point if you are thinking of getting in to printmaking.
This two day course will give the students the opportunity to develop their skills in the blackwork technique. The students will learn how to work at least five different stitch patterns in stranded cotton and machine thread to create shading, introduce colour, create details and edging and introduce a small amount of silver metal thread.
Spend two days learning rope work techniques using three strand, double and single braids. Learn whipping and make grommets, back, eye and other useful splices. Cost of materials included in course fee.
