Introduction to Fused Glass (One Day Course)

Event Type: Craft Course/Workshop
A wonderful introduction to the art of kiln formed glass, using solely Bullseye transparent, opal and iridescent glass. You will gain an understanding of the materials, techniques and processes involved while producing your own masterpiece! Using sheet glass, frits, stringers and wire,add inclusions, create voids & bubbles. No prior glass experience necessary! Lunch & materials incl 10.30-4.30pm.

Silver jewellery for improvers

Suitable for those with some previous jewellery making experience. Weaving workshops

Event Type: Craft Course/Workshop
Every Wednesday - four sessions in each month - from 7-9pm. I'll show you how to weave a beautiful wall hanging cascading with colour. We shall look at examples of weaving. You will learn how to make a heddle and how to thread up a box loom.

Maltese Cross Metal Clay Pendant with Barbara Becker Simon

In this five day workshop students will use the classic symbol of The Maltese Cross to create a stunning metal clay pendant. Its romantic origins are in the medieval Crusades and the Knights of Malta. In its traditional form, there are four arms which radiate symmetrically from a central point.

A lover of pots The John O'Meara Collection

John O'Meara started collecting ceramics in the 1960's when he moved to London from his home in Ireland. Buying work from artist studios and local galleries his passion for all things clay lasted a lifetime. Moving to Newark, he was a regular visitor to Earth & Fire, meeting potters and adding to his collection. He also developed considerable skill himself, creating work at classes.

Ceramics: wheel throwing

Event Type: Craft Course/Workshop
Learners will have one wheel each. This course covers all techniques from basic beginner level skills such as clay preparation, centring, throwing to cylinder, bowls and turning a foot ring. More advanced learners will be challenged with individual tasks such as lids, spouts and plates etc.

BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Art and Design: Glass

Event Type: Craft Course/Workshop
Kiln-Formed Glass skills are essential for this course. Evidence of sound research and drawing skills will be required. You need to be self-motivated and prepared to spend at least 2 days per week in college as well as making research in your own time. Learners will explore advanced model and mould making processes such as lost wax casting, core casting, working with rigid and flexible moulds.
