Casting in Pewter - Cuttlefish Moulds

Event Type: Craft Course/Workshop
Cuttlefish bone moulds are one of the oldest known methods of casting metal. This course is an introduction into pewter art casting using cuttlefish, with a hint of archaeological alchemy. You will be shown how to carve designs into cuttlefish bones. Pewter will then be melted and poured into the moulds and after a little fettling and chasing, you will leave with your own design cast in pewter.

Introduction to Woodcarving

Enjoy a weekend learning the skills of a woodcarver and how to choose suitable wood for a project. You will be introduced to relief carving or in-the-round sculpture. We will discuss the correct selection and use of carving tools with a brief discussion about purchasing tools, equipment and maintenance. These hives are designed by German sculptor, Guenther Mancke, and represent the fruits of many years of research into the nature of the honeybee colony.
