The craft&design Prize at Potfest in the Pens 2016
How would you interpret ‘Dinner for One’ using clay? That was the theme of this year’s competition for the potters exhibiting at Potfest in the Pens 2016, which craft&design have been delighted to sponsor for many years.
The challenge is for the potters to come up with something that’s not quite in line with the style of work they usually produce, perhaps using different techniques.
The entries this year were exceptional, some a bit quirky, others setting out quite a traditional ‘Dinner for One’ in clay - all of them highly original and very popular with Potfest visitors.
To show just how different David Lawson
’s winning piece was from his usual work, we’re including images of both here. As you can see, in addition to being a rather superb sculpture, David’s ‘Perpetual Hunger’ has a poignant message about ‘Dinner for One’, whilst the woodfired, saltglazed tableware that he is better known for would look fabulous on any dinner table, no matter how many were being served!
In addition to awarding David Lawson the craft&design Competition Prize at Potfest in the Pens 2016, we also chose three Runners Up: Lesley Anne Greene
, Janet Halligan
and Susan Crame. You can see a selection of the competition entries on our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/craftanddesign (the posting is dated 06/08/16).
