The craft&design Prize at Potfest in the Pens 2015

Ceramics by Nichola Hanman

craft&design has been really pleased to sponsor the competition at Potfest in the Pens for many years, it’s a unique opportunity for the exhibitors to create a piece of work in response to a theme - this year it was ‘Planted Forms’. The potters never fail to come up with original works that are always imaginative, often quirky, frequently humorous and always tricky to choose a prize winner from. So much thought and work goes into every piece and this year’s entries really were brilliant. But choose we must and on the Friday night of the show we were delighted to announce Nichola Hanman as this year’s winner. Nichola’s entry was very different from her usual work, fulfilling one of the challenges of the competition, and will be the front cover feature of our July/August 2016 issue.

Ceramics by David Melville

This year there was an additional competition at The Pens, aimed at putting the spotlight on the potters who specialise in making domesticware. Exhibitors were invited to make a set of six Dipping Oil Bowls, specifically to use with the ‘Charlie&Ivys’ range of Dipping Oils, just one of the many products made on our daughter and her husband’s farm using their own Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil. We were delighted to announce David Melville as the winner, his prize was a huge hamper and a bottle of bubbly - and a nice order from Charlie&Ivys for those lovely bowls!

Congratulations to all the potters who entered the competitions, we’re really sorry we couldn’t choose you all as winners!
