craft&design were delighted to be part of the judging panel for The Contemporary Glass Society New Designers Glass Prize 2011, which comprised Jan Lasnon, our PR and features writer, together with renowned glass artist Bruno Romanelli, Arts Council England representative Jackie Lee and CGS representative Karen Murphy.
Sara Fell, the winner, will receive a prize valued at £1400, which includes a year’s subscription to ‘craft&design magazine’ and promotional space in the Makers Gallery pages of our Jan/Feb 2012 issue.
The CGS judges were unanimous in selecting Sara, a recent glass graduate from Plymouth College of Art and Design, for an outstanding body of work that displayed a sophisticated and elegant style. Sara Fell said: "To win this Prize was an incredible feeling, to receive such unanimous recognition from the line up of judges made me very proud, both for myself and the glass department at Plymouth College of Art. All the hard work paid off and the prize enables me to get the work photographed professionally as a whole concept; something that I could not have managed to do without it. It has also helped to fund my place on the Ted Noten Summer School in Amsterdam, hopefully taking my conceptual approach to jewellery to another level".
