The craft&design Award at The British Glass Biennale 2010

'Contained Freedom' - glass sculpture by Fiaz Elson work by Erin Dickson

Innovation, craftsmanship and skill in design and making were the main criteria when judging for our craft&design Award at the British Glass Biennale this year. We were fascinated by one piece in particular, mesmerised by the form and colour, which appeared to alter subtly with the changing light and position of the viewer. So we’re delighted to announce that this intriguing piece has won our Award:

  • Fiaz Elson: ‘Contained Freedom / 2010’, kiln-cast optical and purple glass with internal lens and polished curved surfaces.

  • For our Highly Commended Award we chose work in a very different style by a talented young graduate of Sunderland University:
Erin Dickson: Tumbler 1, float glass, waterjet cut computer (Rhino) design.

As part of her award, Fiaz Elson’s work is the front cover feature of Issue 213 of craft&design, with Erin Dickson’s work being featured in the same issue.
